Jr. Wizards Staff

Our Staff

The Jr. Wizards coaching staff is made up of experienced coaches from all levels, including high school, middle school and AAU coaches, current and former collegiate players/coaches, game officials, trainers and other basketball personnel.  All Jr. Wizards staff are subject to a rigorous screening process.

We apply the whole-part-whole philosophy to our curriculum development; placing emphasis not just on the what but also the how and the why. We want players of all ages to understand not just what you need to work on, but why it's important.  This is especially evident in our Spring and Summer Camps.

Our staff approaches teaching the game of basketball with high energy, clarity, confidence and enthusiasm.  They have a love for teaching the game; and do so in a fun, respectful manner.

Position Overview: Jr. Wizards, the official youth basketball program of the Washington Wizards, Washington Mystics, and Capital City Go-Go, are looking for basketball coaches to join our growing team. This role will be responsible for confidently and successfully implement our curriculum and mission.

Jr. Wizards, the official youth basketball program of the Washington Wizards, Washington Mystics, and Capital City Go-Go, are looking for experienced Camp Directors to join our growing team. This role will be responsible for directing week-long summer basketball camps while confidently and successfully implementing our curriculum and mission.

  • Experience directing full day basketball camps is required.

Coach Clancy has led the Jr. Wizards youth basketball platform since its relaunch in the spring of 2017.

A native of Long Island, New York, Coach Clancy has an extensive background in coaching and camp supervision.  He served as an assistant coach at nationally ranked Long Island Lutheran High School from 2006 to 2012 – winning three New York State Federation State Championships along the way.  Coach Clancy also directed the LuHi Summer Basketball School – the longest running basketball camp on Long Island (past directors include the likes of Bob McKillop) – and was an Assistant Director of LuHi Summer Programs – one of the largest day camp providers on the East Coast, serving over 5,000 campers each year.

Prior to coming to the Wizards, Clancy served as the Director of Sports Programming at the 92nd Street Y – a world famous cultural institution located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.  He played collegiately at New England College in Henniker, NH.

 

Drew Seagroves
Coordinator, Youth Basketball

Coach Drew has been with the Jr. Wizards team since July of 2021.

Born and raised in Chapel Hill, Drew attended the University of North Carolina, graduating in 2019. While in school, he worked under Hall of Fame Coach Roy Williams as head manager of the Men’s Basketball program. As head manager, he helped lead basketball camps and clinics, in addition to helping with day-to-day operations of the team during the season.

Prior to joining the Jr. Wizards, Drew worked with both the Utah Jazz and the Wizards as a Basketball Operations Intern, assisting in prospect scouting and NBA Draft preparations.
